Parking

Hockeytown Parking Sucks as it is… when you add in snow it sucks even more.

Please allow yourself plenty of time to find a parking space (or park at Hooters) with Gary Goodwin and walk back.

Penalty Rule (Extending Penalties)

Effective immediately, players who receive ANY penalty during a game can be subject to an additional penalty of (1-1/2 minutes minor for “unsportsmanlike conduct” or a 5-minute misconduct) if the offending player’s actions thereafter warrant an additional penalty extension (see examples below) that takes place AFTER the initial call has been made:

5-Minute Misconduct Penalty can be given for the following player actions:

  • Players hitting the boards with their stick in frustration
  • Throwing the stick into the penalty box, bench area, or anywhere on the rink
  • Deliberately slamming the bench door
  • Slamming their stick against the goalie nets or plexiglass
  • Berating the officials
  • See the leagues “Zero Tolerance Policy”
  • A 5-Minute Misconduct Penalty are not Powerplay opportunities

In certain situations, players can be given a supplemental penalty and/or an additional game misconduct penalty by the officials (if their actions warrant it), up to and including the offending player being removed from the game (Based on the Referee’s discretion).

Example 1: If a player breaks his stick over the goal posts and then tosses it into the netting, that player receives a “Misconduct” penalty, along with a “Game Misconduct” penalty and they are ejected from the game.

Example 2:  If a player hits the boards with his stick and receives a “5-minute Misconduct” penalty then proceeds to verbally berate the officials over the call, said player will also

receive an automatic “Game Misconduct” penalty and they are ejected from the game.

Extending the Penalty

Initial call: Slashing, Tripping, Holding… etc (1.5 Minutes)

  • Escalating with the Referees and debating or berating (additional 1.5 Minutes) with an “Unsportsmanlike” penalty assessed and (3.0 Minutes in the Box) which includes (2) separate penalties. The third penalty includes an automatic ejection from the game.

Initial call: Slashing, Tripping, Holding… etc (1.5 Minutes)

  • Escalating with the Referees and debating or berating that goes to the level of a “Game Misconduct” (Based on the Referee’s discretion) that player will be ejected from the game.  The offending (and ejected) players’ team will play shorthanded for the initial penalty call, but not the “Game Misconduct.

5-Minute Misconduct

Five on Five (No Power Play), offending player sits for 5-minutes

Game Misconduct

Automatic ejection from the game

All “Game Misconducts” and ejections are subject to additional disciplinary action from the League Director and the Board of Directors.

#2 Star Pedro Fontes
#3 Star Sean Roach

Winless January

This week The Revolution are going to attempt their version of a “Dry January” but the Over-30 equivalent with a “Winless January”.

Last up in the rotation for them is Tommy Guns… and with both teams fighting for the spot in the basement, the major difference is the “Goals For” with Tommy Guns outscoring them with 15-goals to The Revolution’s 6-goals.

The good news for The Revolution is that AJ Larabee has let up (13) Goals Against, as AJ and his “3/4 CDX Plywood” filled blocker is going head-to-head against Scotty Rosato and his (13) Goals Against.

Both AJ and Scotty will be competing with Dale McIssac (14) Goals Against to see who will exit the weekend with the most goals against.  Time for everyone’s defense to step up and help their goalies out.

"Robbed" by GWG

In December it was “Elf on the Shelf”… and in January for The Revolution, they had to deal with “Rob in the Slot” as a 1-1 game going in overtime resulted in the GWG being scored by Rob Sheridan, when someone missed an assignment and left him wide open in Ray Nickerson’s favorite spot to shoot from.  Unconfirmed rumors said there was a brown player in the crease.

Rob ripped a top shelf goal that “robbed” The Revolution’ers chance at their first win of the season, and against the defending champs.  They did, however, earn a valuable point after a shot from their captain Jim Barber ricocheted off Poo Bears defenseman Mike Naczas (who turned around) and shouted at his goaltender “Gimme the Assist!!”

Leo’s Win & Loss

You win some and you lose some… Leo Trombley who’s infamous for missing wide open nets and timely scoring opportunities… did not miss on his two assists last week as Leo continues to contribute to his team’s winning ways with their 3rd win of the season.

Leo’s loss came on Sunday when he sat down to watch his beloved Broncos lose 10-7 to the Patriots.  We can only imagine what Leo was saying to the TV when Wil Lutz missed two field goal attempts… “I’ve been there (buddy)… You got Trombley'ed”.

5:30 - First Responders vs. Tommy Guns
#1 Star Mike O'Neil
#2 Star Dominc Defrancisco
#3 Star Mark Stickney

Dom-entia

Can someone remind Dominic DeFrancisco that he’s a captain and alleged role model for the players on his team.  Last week with 1:14 left to play in the first… it seems Dom had a case of “Dom-entia” when he forgot he’s supposed to lead by example… and the example is not smashing sticks and tossing them into the netting.

This week we hope that Dom’s pre-game warm-up music gets switch to an audio book… something from Tony Robbins and his 1999 Best Seller “Unleash the power within”  - without breaking or tossing a stick.

Unfortunately for Dom… a new Mylec stick was not part of the “Mylec Player of the Year” Award prize package, that was given to him last week from the League Director.

“Poopsie” Shutout

Hey Mike Duggan… this is week #5 of 15 and your GPA (Goals Per-game Average) is at .75 below the 1.2 required to be on a passing trend.

Last week Dave Giusti kept you and your 5-shots off the scoring sheet (No Goals or Assists) and your buddy Mike Naczas is prancing around with joy.

This week it doesn’t get any easier (if) you have a breakaway against your “Breakaway Nemesis” Scotty Rosato in net.

“Home Alone”

Looks like more bad news for Tommy Guns as Kevin Wilson went down with what many feared was a bad knee injury.

We haven’t seen a player stay down that long since Tony “The Truth” Medeiros, when he was lying on the dek… longer than his shift sitting injured on the bench lasted.

Thankfully for Kevin it’s not knee related, but lower body related and he’s going to be spending the next few weeks  “Home Alone” without his teammates.

6:30 - Capo-Zero vs. Cam-A-Lot
#1 Star Angelo DeLuca
#2 Star Lee Nogler
#3 Star Jon Brown

Another Shorty

Once again, the increase in powerplay time from 1-minute to 1.5-minutes has resulted in another “Shorthanded” goal… and it was a thing of beauty.

Kyle McCabe found himself high in the slot (thinking shot) before seeing that Gino Tammaro was camped out on the left goal post calling for it.  Kyle quickly switched modes from shot to pass… and it was a bang-bang play for Kyle and Gino.

There is also no truth to the rumor that with all the shorthanded goals being scored this season that if a team scores a SHG, that their penalized player can get out of the box early.

Top Corner Blast!

WOW!! Did you see the goal Lee Nogler scored from his own zone on Dale McIsaac… if you didn’t see it, don’t worry… neither did Dale.  Lee ripped an absolute “Top Corner” blast from his own defensive zone as part of his 2-goal performance.

Maybe Dale, who finally received his Mylec equipment courtesy of the league, should have spent some of the $250 towards upgrading his goalie equipment as he’s leading the league in goals against… and leading the league in “Timeouts called by a goalie”

Under the Radar

Kyle McCabe seems to be the first player to throw his name in the ballot box for the “Under the Radar” award (Forward).

Although he’s yet to score this season… last week he played a solid game to help Capo-Zero beat Cam-A-Lot in OT, which included assisting on the GWG by Angelo De Luca with 1.4 1left to play in OT.

Stay with it Kyle… stay under the radar, don’t get to noticed and you too will win a Lucite Award come Week #15 of the season.

“Benny and his Jets”

The quiet begging process of securing the speedy defenseman Ben Tomsyck to their roster has begun.  To quote Elton John… “Benny and his Jets” are only available as a fill-in basis due to his firefighting schedule.

Note: League officials are also scouting additional fill-ins (or replacements – if required) before the rosters close after Week #10 (and the complaining on Week #11starts)

IOU Call

Reminder… if you purchased Super Bowl LX squares from Tony Medeiros… and you purchased on the cuff.  Please see Tony this week before we draw the numbers.  We don’t want any 5-5 or 8-8 players to be owing money and not paying for crappy numbers.

Goal Celebrations

We just want to remind players that the ball needs to completely cross the goal line before celebrating goals.

Last week, Mike Luise celebrated a goal that never crossed the line… and Lee Nogler thought he snuck a hat trick past Dale McIsaac only to see league officials waving him off.

Just like a Gino Tammaro offsides call… The ball must cross the line first!

For the record: J.R. Liwanag you should have been celebrating as you were robbed of a goal by a shady goalie and a quick whistle.
