Award Winner – Winter 2005

Considered by many to be the “Godfather” of defensemen in the Over-30 league, Bill continues to compete as one of the league’s all-time top 5 rated defensemen who have ever played in the Over-30 league; a player that you can build a team’s defense around.

He may have slowed down as he has gotten older, but, his competition level and experience play a vital role in his consistent performance year in and year out.  Composed, sure in his decisions, and a natural leader, Bill is one of the best defensemen/quarterbacks that has ever played in the league

Now playing in his 37th season, Bill continues to amaze with his durability and consistency of performance.  You can always count of Bill to be there week in and week out leading his team’s defense.  He may be older, but, his shutdown skills and rink awareness are still sharp and he has an uncanny knack to slow the play down around him and make the right decision on the breakout.  One of the all-time “character players” and role models that has ever played in the Over-30 league.

Rumors & Facts:

  • He is one of the elite members of the “I haven’t missed a season since the Winter 1992 Club” when he won his first Championship with Gangreen Slugs.  That is a very elite ironman club.
  • Bill has the back of a player in his early 20’s and the legs of a speedster even though you watch him walk before and after his games with a slight limp, hunched over and favoring one leg.
  • He has to arrive to the game 30-minutes early to begin putting on all his knee and support braces while mentally preparing his game plan for that week’s opponent.
  • He is too old to make a foolish pass, but still young enough to rush it end-to-end… typically with the same frequency as a lunar eclipse, but it happens.
  • If slow and steady wins the race… then Billy is a gold medalist.
  • Bill Mack is not an heir to the Mack Truck fortune
