Award Winner - Spring 2006

One of the Over-30 league’s more durable and reliable elder statesman (and one of its founding fathers) who was there when the league began, defenseman Ed Dullea has been rewarded for that reliability by winning 8- championship jackets during his tenure in the league.

To see you him, you’re not sure if you should have pity for him… or if he can really play?  In Ed’s case, he can really play.  Ed is currently tied for second place overall for the most jackets won in league history.  He has matured into one of the Over-30 league’s steady yet unnoticed defensemen.  (“Steady Ed”) continues to hold his own against younger and quicker opponents while blending in as the consummate team player.

Playing in his 37th season, Ed is a dependable veteran player who shows up on a consistent basis.  He is a stay-at-home defenseman who plays a blue-collar type of game, and someone that understands positional hockey on the rink… as a defensive partner he is someone you can depend on to back you up.

Ed can consistently be found in the corner of the rink after his game watching the next game.  He is not easy to miss.  Just look for the cloud of smoke hovering all around him as Ed is a notorious smoker.  He will try to tell you that the smoke is from his day job as an oil burner technician that gets on his clothes, (but we know better).  When he is not playing in the Over-30 league, Ed continues to step up to the challenge of playing against the younger guys, Ed can be found playing Wednesday nights up at Hockeytown with his Wine Cellar team.  The origins of the Wine Cellar dek hockey team dates back to the early 80’s which makes the Wine Cellar as much of a dinosaur relic as Ed.

Rumors & Facts:

  • Has a season high 12-points back in 1995 with Ray’s Whiners
  • Has never missed one season since Winter 1992 with Geriatric Walkers
  • Ed lives by the motto “if you got them, smoke them”
  • Never once read the Surgeons General warning on a pack of cigarettes
  • Thinks “Black Lung” is a 70’s punk rock band
  • Joined the Wine Cellar team because is sounded upper class
  • He understands the molecular principals and sciences of why water and oil don’t mix
  • When Ed first starting playing he used to get confused when the refs would call “Delay Offside’s” and he would yell back at them saying “I wasn’t offside’s.”
  • Once listed the Marlboro Man and Joe Camel as references on his resume.
