Statler & Waldorf Play of the Week
The new "Statler & Waldorf" play of the week award is awarded to a player who's single play stood out amoungst all the games and is recoginized for that single effort (win or lose) with a $5.00 scratch ticket

Week #15
Dave Giusti

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Dave Giusti of Omerta.

With his team fighting for a higher playoff seed while missing half its team, Dave stepped up all game to make the timely saves needed.

None was more crucial than the save he made late in the second period in a tie game.

With Tim Hickey using his breakaway speed down the middle of the rink quickly getting a step ahead of the defense, then deking in close left then right onto his backhand staring at a wide-open net with Dave down, Dave somehow repositioned extending his left arm and catching glove to save the shot last second, denying Tim of a sure goal.

Week #14
Ron Aquino

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Ron “the Flyin Hawaiian” Aquino of Last Call.

Trying to build momentum heading into the playoffs, Ron and Last Call are starting to find their games.

Down two goals entering the third period, Ron’s breakaway late in the game helped his team to storm back to earn a valuable point in a tie game.  Ron also scored his team’s first goal in this game.

Ron broke across the middle to get sent in on a breakaway running at full speed, faked taking a shot to freeze the goalie, then deked onto his backhand to score into an open net.

Ron Aquino

Week #13
Scott Rosato

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Scott Rosato of ReUnited.

With a tie game 3 to 3 late in the second period Scott made the save of the game.

With Joe Carton in front with a wide-open net Scott robbed him with a glove save keeping the game tied. All that time with him on TV paid off in a big way.

Week #12
Marty Makarewicz

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Marty Makarewicz of Top Secret.

With his team trailing by a goal in a back-and-forth close game after Marty scored on a power play, Marty showed off his hustle and speed in a highlight sequence during the third period.

When Matty Iannello took the ball and split the defense at the blue line and was off to the races, Marty hustled back starting from halfway in the offensive zone, and caught Matty at the top of the circle before he was able to get a shot off.

For a short time, that never give up hustle play kept the game close and gave Marty’s team a chance to tie the game.

Marty Makarewicz

Week #11
Jake Brum

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Jake Brum of Last Call.

For Jake, it’s been a frustrating season, struggling to find his game after returning from long-term IR.

The consistency he displayed during his amazing rookie season has been missing, but his last two games show indications that he is finding his game, and so is his team.  It’s just a matter of time.

With his team locked in a tied game in overtime with each team having some prime scoring chances, Jake came up HUGE with the save of the game.  Facing a 2-on-0 at point blank range, Jake robbed Rich Pelletier’s shot heading into an open net, as he reached up while down and snared the shot.

Jake Brum

Week #10
John Mastrocola

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is John Mastrocola of Top Secret.

In a scoreless game, playing his off wing in the second period, John made a great heads up play to score the game’s first goal.

Going one-on-one down the right wing against the defenseman, John used his speed to get a step on the defense, and with the defenseman draped all over him cut towards the net and while being taken down, somehow managed to score.

It was a great hustle play and power move by John that made even some of the game’s top scorers take notice.

John Mastrocola

Week #9
Dave Giusti

The winner of the 2/26/22 Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Dave Giusti of Omerta.

After being out on IR for seven weeks with a lower body injury, Dave was rusty (which we expected) and was close to being pulled in net.

However, turned his game around by making a breakaway save off Jim Barber, flashing out the pad after Jim made a move, to deny him and give his team a chance to get back in their game.

After the game when asked how difficult that save was, Dave replied “it wasn’t once I saw it was Jim Barber coming towards me!”

Dave Giusti

Week #8
Marty Makarewicz

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Marty Makarewicz of Top Secret.

Filling in for a player on IR, Marty had a successful return to the league after an eight-year hiatus.

Marty accomplished two key things in his debut.  First, he played center anchoring the second line giving Top Secret more depth up the middle.

Second, for a team needing some offensive punch, he scored on his first shot of the game, kickstarting the offense resulting in five unanswered goals.

Marty Makarewicz

Week #7
Sean Roach

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Sean Roach of Top Secret.

In a scoreless close back-and-forth game, Sean made the save of the game to keep it this way during the second period.

With ReUnited cycling the play down low, Jim Barber found himself all alone out front with a wide-open net, only to have Sean slide across while stacking the pads to rob Jim of a sure goal.

It was a timely save, one of 34 Sean made in this game, only giving up a goal with two minutes to play, and an off-speed misfire shot with less than thirty seconds to play in the game.

Sean Roach

Week #6
Guido

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is fill-in goalie Guido.

We went outside the box here and chose a fill-in player for this week’s award.

With the ball on his stick and looking to make a breakout pass, Guido tried passing the ball up the boards only to have Dominic Defrancisco intercept the ball.

Realizing that Dom had a wide-open net, Guido scrambled back across the crease, sliding and stacking the pads to rob Dom of a sure goal.

Guido

Week #5
Ray Dow

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Ray Dow of Omerta.

We went outside the box in our thinking this week, to recognize not a player’s singular play, but his combined achievement.  Ray accomplished something that is very rare for a defenseman to do as he scored a hat trick in his game.

Ray scored two goals early in the first period, then capped it off early in the second period, leading the rout by his team over their outmatched opponent.

The scoring outburst moved Ray into second place in the defensemen scoring race.

Ray Dow

Week #4
Scott Rosato

The winner of the 2/27/22 Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Scott Rosato of ReUnited.

In a back-and-forth scoreless game between both teams late in the second period that erupted into six goals scored over the third and overtime periods, Scott made the save of the game when it mattered.

With his team down on the scoreboard and mounting a comeback, Scott made a key stop as he was down on the rink, rolling onto his back to deny a stuff attempt into an open net.

The save gave his team time to tie the game and eventually comeback to win it in overtime.

Scoot Rosato

Week #3
Colleen O'Connell

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Colleen O’Connell Gold Miners.

She may be the only girl playing in the league but Colleen holds her own out on the rink.  In this game, she got rewarded for her efforts.

In a close one-goal game, Colleen’s third period shot from the point snuck past the goalie that ignited a two-goal scoring outburst by her team.

For Colleen the goal was a long-time coming, as it was her first goal scored since the winter 2015 season.

The satisfaction for Colleen is knowing that at this point of the season, she has now scored one more goal than half of the guys playing in the league.  Well done Colleen!

Colleen O'Connell

Week #2
Scott Rosato

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Scott Rosato of ReUnited.

With his team holding on to a three-goal lead, Scott made the key save of the game, preventing the other team from closing the gap.

In the second period during a scramble out front, Scott made an initial save, then while sprawled out on the rink, somehow dove across to his left with his stick making a unbelievable save keeping the game a two goal lead.

A desperation save?  More like a 10-bell highlight wow factor save!

Scott Rosato

Week #1
Joe Shannon

The winner of the weekly Stadler and Waldorf Play of the Week award is Joe Shannon of Top Secret.

In a back-and-forth game Joey tied the game up in the third period with a great shot from the slot.

Half way into overtime Joey stole the ball near the benches walked in on a breakaway making two moves and scoring the game winner.

It was a momentum changing play by a veteran player.
