Five Guys Player of the Week
Week #15
Tony Bono

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Tony Bono of Loose Cannons.

With his team turning their game around after a late season winless streak, Tony’s play and versatility has played a key role that gets little notice.

Whether it is filling in on offense or defense, Tony’s defensive skills are able to shut down the other team’s top players.

From time to time, Tony steps up his offense as he did this week by setting up two goals.

How Tony’s skills are utilized during the team’s playoff run could have a big impact on his team’s success.

Tony Bono

Week #14
Todd Bryson

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Todd Bryson of Top Secret.

Todd has been mostly under the radar this season, but he has been consistent in his play as well.

Todd will never beat you with his speed, but, his thinking the play through and making plays have been on display.  None more so than his effort this week.

Todd scored 1-goal and more importantly, made plays when it mattered in a tie game during the third period, as he set up two key goals during a four-goal outburst in four minutes that broke open a close game.

Todd Bryson

Week #13
Ray Dow

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Ray Dow of Omerta.

Ray was down two defensemen one with an injury the other with a brake job that could have been done during the week. Ray had to play major minutes what that means he played the whole game.

Ray had 8 shoots on net plus playing shut-down defense helping his team with a two-game winning streak.

Ray Dow

Week #12
Elder Lopes

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Elder Lopes of Gold Miners.

After missing the last two games, Elder came back and played his best game all season.  Elder was on his game and stood out on the defensive side.

Elder was a force playing defense, quarterbacking the play, breaking up scoring chances, making smart outlet passes, and hustling all over the rink.

Even though he didn’t factor in on the score sheet, Elder’s defensive influence played a major role in Gold Miners extending their unbeaten streak to seven games.

Elder Lopes

Week #11
Dave Costa

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Dave Costa of Last Call.

After going out on IR for a game and a half, and his team unable to secure a win for six straight games, Dave stepped up in his return by filling a big hole on offense and centered the second line.

Dave’s play helped stabilize the second line making them a threat throughout the game.

Late in the third period and especially in overtime, Dave created some offense and had a few close calls to win the game for his team.

Dave Costa

Week #10
Cappy

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Cappy of Gold Miners.

Playing his best game of the season, Cappy was a force on defense, as he quarterbacked his team.

In overtime, Cappy took advantage of a defensive turnover on the powerplay to beat the goalie and score the game winning goal, to go along with an assist earlier.

Throughout the game, Cappy was constantly reading the play, breaking up passes, blocking shots and making smart outlet passes to help his team remain undefeated in its last four games.

Cappy

Week #9
Jamie Kehoe

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award for 2/26/22 is Jamie Kehoe of Top Secret.

With his team down by three goals with seven minutes to play, it was the captain himself who led a furious comeback for his team to earn a tie.

With just under four minutes to play, Jamie set up a goal, then thirty seconds later scored a goal making this a one-goal game.  He capped off his 2-goals, 2-assist game by scoring the tying goal with only nineteen seconds left in the game.

Jaime Kehoe

Week #8
Rich Pelletier

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Rich Pelletier of ReUnited.

With his team playing shorthanded on defense, Rich stepped up and volunteered to play back.  By doing so, Rich sacrificed his potential offense contribution for the benefit of the team.

Facing the top team, Rich held his own, especially against the forecheck using his speed to gain separation.

Rich played some major minutes with his team shorthanded on defense.

Rich Pelletier

Week #7
Alex Leone

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Alex Leone of Top Secret.

With his team playing shorthanded (again), and starting the game with no subs, Alex played a lot of minutes, positioning himself to take away scoring chances, and breaking up a lot of passes.

Alex defensive work in his own zone went a long way towards his team being still in a scoreless game, even though they were outplayed and outshot.

With his team struggling to score goals, and missing players, Alex has elevated his game so far this season.

Alex Leone

Week #6
Tim Burke

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Tim Burke of Loose Cannons.

Seemingly every week, he plays under the radar but always plays consistent defense, Tim had another solid game that has taken the pressure off the two Jason’s on his team.

Tim set up a key go ahead goal as the first period was ending and also set up the last goal of the game, to help break open a close game.

Originally drafted as a second line center, Tim has transitioned seamlessly into playing defense that has showed why his team has depth and balance throughout their lineup.

Tim Burke

Week #5
Bob Snyder

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Bob Snyder of Last Call.

Playing against younger and quicker opponents had no effect on Bob as he held his own while playing some major minutes on defense.

Bob was positionally sound in his game, while jumping into the offense from the point making some heads-up cross rink passes to his team mates for prime scoring chances.

One can be older but never discount their experience.

Bob Synder

Week #4
George Medeiros

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award for 2/27/22 is George Medeiros of Omerta.

The Energizer Bunny of the Over-30 league keeps going and going and going.

The one quality of George’s overall game that stands out ALWAYS is his consistent ability to play hard every shift right until the final buzzer.  He never lets up.

George’s late second period goal broke open a scoreless tie and turned the momentum in his team’s favor as they built a two-goal lead before settling for a valuable point in an overtime loss.

George Medeiros

Week #3
John Mastrocola

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is John Mastrocola of Top Secret.

Still recovering from an upper body injury, John helped his team before their game even began by volunteering to play defense, allowing Joe Shannon to move up to offense.

The move was a key strategy move that paid off as John played solid defense and some major minutes, clearing rebounds and keeping shots to the perimeter.

Using his speed, John was able to make some smart outlet passes while helping his goalie protect the lead on the scoreboard.

John Mastrocola

Week #2
Steve Iacoviello

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Steve Iacoviello of ReUnited.

From the second half of last season, Steve has been playing some solid shutdown defense for his team.  This season is no exception.

The only thing missing for Steve last season was not scoring any points.  What a difference a season makes!

Steve scored his first goal of the season on a blast from the point, to go along with the 2-assists he had after his first game.

Rumor has it that Steve was just “sandbagging” to increase his odds of being eligible for that Spring Scoring Challenge raffle.

Steve Iacoviello

Week #1
Gary Goodwin

The winner of the weekly Five Guys award is Gary Goodwin of Gold Miners.

In a tight back-and-forth game with plenty of scoring opportunities the game was heading into overtime.

Gary had a great scoring chance earlier in the game with the goalie down and out. Gary shot went over the net hitting players pub scoring board keeping the game tied.

Gary had a second chance in the game with a wrist shot from the left side of the net beating the goalie for the game winner in overtime.
