Game Results and Player(s) of the Week

Mylec Player of the Year

This season we have been partnering with Mylec Hockey and President Rick Laperriere

Mylec has donated the printing on the 30th Anniversary Balls.., and they are providing the league with our season ending awards for all the categories.

We are announcing another NEW “Wow” Factor to the 30th Anniversary celebration and our partnership with Mylec.

This season we are doing something that has never been done in the previous 29-seasons.

This spring we will crown an Over-30 League “Mylec Player of the Year” as voted on by the players.

The Board of Directors has chosen 10-nominees and is sponsoring the Mylec Awards Pack to be presented and recognized by Mylec President Rick Laperriere.

The nominees are only the players who have played the majority of “Both” seasons and have been impact players for their teams.

Your “2022 Mylec Player of the Year Nominees” are:

Tales Fom The Crypt

Stolen Valor (Again)
Well now we’ve seen it all.., first Referee Mike Naczas commits his own version of “Stolen Valor” when we wears a Top Secret jersey for the WCVB promotional piece.

But the actual League Director one-upped him with his very own knockoff “Championship” style jacket.., sure the jacket doesn’t have the word “Championship” on it.., but one could mistaken from a distance (based on color and style) that Bill Abcunas was a “30th Anniversary Championship Winner”… and we all know he’s not… “Stolen Valor!!”

The Calvary
Top Secret put out a call for reinforcements last week with 5-players MIA.

Jamie Kehoe must have done a lot of begging to get the League Director to allow ReUnited’s Matty Iannello to fill-in for him.  Matty is typically one of the blacklisted fill-in players as being “The Great One” comes with some unfair advantages when filling in for a team.

How can Bill Abcunas justify replacing a missing player with the “The Great One”?

Only “The Great One” can fill-in for “The Great One”

The League Director allowed Matty to fill-in under one condition… Jamie had to take Jim Barber too to balance the positives with some negatives.

Jamie also got a highly sought after fill-in defenseman Paul Firicano to help Top Secret give them the 2-1 season series wins against Loose Cannons.  Paul is currently in the league as a “fill-in”.., but we expect him to be a top defensive draft pick in the Fall 2022 Draft.

Equality?
Ok… so Last Call has been on a downward spiral for months now.  But, some good news came their way as both Dan Broderick and Dave Costa are back in the line-up.

We just have one question regarding last week’s substitutions.

How is it that you’re missing only one defenseman in Bob Snyder.., and you replace him with Paul Firicano and Doug Morand?  Bobby is solid defenseman but he’s not 2-for-1 solid.

Someone owes ReUnited an extra point in the standing for that 4-4 OT tie.

Side Note: Doug Morand has filled in a few times this season and looks solid on defense.., he too is another player looking to be added on the Fall 2022 Draft Board.

Senior Shutdown
He has won the most Championships to date (somewhat by default) as he’s been with the league since day 1… and he’s one of the oldest players in the league… but Ed Nigro (at his age) is still proving he can shut down some of the league’s top elite players.

Last week we watch Ed shutdown Lee Nogler a few times and Eddie has proven in the past.., don’t judge a book by its old cover and publishing date.., Ed is the original “Shutdown Defenseman”

It’s just too bad his shot doesn’t even register on the radar gun… Eddie likes to be measured in championships not goals and points like this younger generation.

Rising Tide
“A rising tide lifts all boats”.., who would have thought a tidle wave like Lee Nogler could rise an old tugboat like Gary Goodwin.

“Stonehands” has quietly put together what could be a career year.

Currently at 17-points with 4-games to go… Gary hasn’t posted a 20-point season since 2002-Spring (10g, 11a, 3-GWG) and 2003-Spring (13g, 8a, 1-GWG) seasons when he had an impressive 21-points in those two seasons.

Tell the awards manufacturing company to go ahead and print “Gary Goodwin” on one of the Lucite Awards for this spring’s award ceremonies.

IOC Update
Team Italy lead by Matty Iannello (29-points) has an 11-point lead over their new rivals Team Mongrel.., and an even bigger 18-point lead over the defending champs Team Portugal.

The loss of Manny Nunes and his point production.., along with Tony Medeiros and his “lack of point production” has Team Portugal on life-support.

Jeff Deharo is the only goalie posting a positive number.., and ironically Scotty Rosato who went undrafted would have been leading all goalies with 12-points.., but Sean Roach’s long hair fit the Team Mongrel brand and style.  Sean could get his team back into with a shutout performance (which is worth 5-points to the goalies).

Nick Doherty (23-points) and Lee Nogler (22-points) are doing their part for Team Mongrel… they just need a certain someone to start scoring.

Size Matters
Does George Medeiros get a little extra charge when playing against his fellow countryman?

We watched as Dominic DeFrancisco tried to manhandle George (and it didn’t faze him) and then George dusted Tony Medeiros leaving him on his belly as George went in on a unsuccessful breakaway.

George is the “smallest” player in the league… but makes the “biggest” impact for his team as he just never quits on a play (or a game) despite the score.

Portuguese Jewels
When Ray Dow almost crippled Jim Barber with a blistering slapshot on the back of the leg… everyone asked “why did Jim turn away?”

Last week that reason (why?) was demonstrated on Tony Medeiros who during the waning seconds of the game took a shot to the “Portuguese Jewels”.  As if Tony’s season wasn’t already depressing and underperforming enough.., he had to stop a Market Basket for a bag of frozen peas for the ride home.

Club Zero Update
After publically shaming 17-players (2 on IR) with their membership to “Club Zero”.., 4-players had their memberships revoked,

Tim Hickey, Steve Medeiros, Derrick Power and Mike Surette all scored goals last week for their teams.

Ed Nigro managed to “Get me the assist” and go himself out of the VIP room and downgraded to just “goal-less”

If you said… after 11-games into the season that Derrick Power would have more goals that Ray Nickerson.., and Dave Parquette would only have 1-assist.., we would have taken the under.
