AARP (50+) Award
Week #15
Alex Leone

The winner of the weekly AARP award is Alex Leone of Top Secret.

The last couple of weeks, Alex has stepped up on defense.  Playing a lot of minutes, breaking up plays, blocking shots and setting up goals.

Alex’s has elevated his game at the right time, right before playoffs, giving his team a solid and dependable defensive core.

Week #14
Jim Barber

The winner of the weekly AARP award is Jim Barber of ReUnited.

It must be the Vulcan stick!  How else to explain that Jim only had one other multi-goal game this season back in week 7, and suddenly he comes up with a hat trick.

Jim was on his game this week, hustling the entire game, while scoring the game’s first two goals then adding one more for good measure late in the game, while also setting up two goals in the second period.

Jim’s line was the dominant line for his team in this game, as they led the way in helping his team regain first place overall with one game left to play.

Jim Barber

Week #13
Ron Aquino

The winner of the weekly AARP award is Ron Aquino of Last Call.

With only one point in their last eight games Last Call finally got a win.

Thanks to Ron who was all over the rink with his hustle he was a key reason for his team’s win.

Ron put his team ahead 4 to 2 mid way through the second period keeping a two goal lead. The game went into overtime with Last Call winning.

Ron Aquino

Week #12
Shawn Mulcahy

The winner of the weekly AARP award is Shawn Mulcahy of Gold Miners.

With his team the hottest team in the league and playing their best hockey, that has influenced players to elevate their games and play as a team, Shawn certainly elevated his game.

Usually going unnoticed out on the rink and occasionally making the score sheet, Shawn played his usual quiet but very effective game on defense.

Shawn was solid on defense making smart decisions with the ball, attacking the play, and playing solid position.

Shawn Mulcahy

Week #11
Jamie Kehoe

The winner of the weekly AARP award is Jamie Kehoe of Top Secret.

With his team missing half its players and needing players on offense, Jamie moved up front filling this need.

Jamie scored the game’s first goal, then scored another during an opening four goal outburst by his team to set the tempo of this game, making his team’s second line a threat all game.

As one of the league’s top defenseman, Jamie looked like a top forward, making his shots count when they mattered.

Jaime Kehoe

Week #10
Dan Broderick

The winner of the weekly AARP award is Dan Broderick of Last Call.

After being out on IR with an upper body injury for three weeks, Dan returned to action.  Shaking off the rust quickly, with his top defenseman on IR, Dan played some major minutes.

Against the one of the league’s hottest teams with plenty of younger players who can run, Dan relied on his years of experience in playing solid positioning, slowing the play down, and making smart decisions on the rink.

Dan’s outlet pass halfway in the third period resulting in a key goal, got his team back into the game, and went a long way in earning a valuable point in the standings.

Dan Broderick

Week #9
Matty Iannello

The winner of the 2/26/22 AARP award is Matty Iannello of ReUnited.

The Great One is back!

Facing the hottest team in the league, Matty led the way in leaving no doubt that his team would win this game.

As his team jumped out to an early four goal lead, Matty set up two of the goals.  As their opponent closed the gap to two goals, Matty stuck the dagger in the heart by scoring 2-goals to seal the victory.

It was just another typical example of Matty I leading his team by example.

Matty Iannello

Week #8
Gary Goodwin

The winner of the AARP award is Gary Goodwin of Gold Miners.

Gary is quietly going unnoticed (not by his team mates) and having one of his best seasons.

Gary is leading his team in scoring, moving up into a tie for 7th place in the leading scorer’s race, and has two of his team’s game winning goals.

He has always played that dump it in and chase hard on the forecheck game, but this season he has added the surprising element of scoring some big goals for his team, to round out his game.

Such was the case as he scored the game winner in overtime to help his team move up in the standings.

Gary Goodwin

Week #7
Nick Romano

The winner of the AARP award is Nick Romano of Omerta.

Nick looks rejuvenated out on the rink.  Perhaps it is due to the younger talent on his team that has elevated his game.

Nick scored 2-goals and set up another that ignited a six-goal outburst by his team that quickly turned a tied game into a blowout.

What we have noticed with Nick is his change from a “shoot first” mentality, to a playmaker role on his team, setting up his team mates.  Nick has been getting his scoring chances; they just haven’t been going in for him.

Nick Romano

Week #6
Rob Valley

The winner of the AARP award is Rob Valley of ReUnited.

In a close back and forth game, Rob played a solid game, anchoring his team’s defense.

Playing like a number 1 defense, Rob was able to minimize the other team’s scoring chances.

Rob may not get a lot of press for his style of play, but in this game, he stood out making a difference.

Rob Valley

Week #5
Don Maccini

The winner of the AARP award is Don Maccini of Loose Cannons.

Loose Cannons continues being the hottest team in the league, winners of three straight games.  Stepping up in their most recent win was Don, who played the role of playmaker for his team, setting up four of the five goals his team scored.

Don picked the right time to break out offensively on the scoresheet.

If he's not going to spend his KENO winnings on new gear.., Here’s hoping that Don hits on that scratch ticket for a couple hundred dollars so he can update his Raggedy Andy look and buy some new sneakers, matching shin pads, a new gloves and perhaps new shorts to all replace that tattered look he currently displays on the rink.

Don Maccini

Week #4
Mike Luise

The winner of the 2/27/22 AARP award is Mike Luise of Gold Miners.

Having only scored one point over his last four games, Mike ended his silent offensive production.

Locked in a very close one-goal game, Mike broke out offensively as the playmaker for his team, setting up two goals in the second period, then added another assist early in the third period.

Mike’s efforts went a long way in helping his team pull away and remain undefeated over its last four games

Mike Luise

Week #3
Mark Stickney

The winner of the AARP award is Mark Stickney of Top Secret.

Once again, it continues to amaze seeing these older veteran players step up when their team is playing short-handed and make a real impact in the outcome of their games.

Such was the case of Mark, knowing his team was missing their best player and top defenseman, as he stepped up into the offense, scoring a goal and had a key assist in the third period.

Mark’s leadership went a long way in his team pulling off the upset.

Mark Stickney

Week #2
Tony Bono

The winner of the AARP award is Tony Bono of Loose Cannons.

Once again, we have another 50+ player still making an impact in his game, reminding all those younger players that he may be older but he still has game.

Playing center, Tony was able to showcase his playmaking skills to set up three goals in his game.

Not only did Tony display his offensive skills, but matched that with his always solid defensive skills to shut down the other team’s top players from scoring.

Tony Bono

Week #1
Jeff Deharo

The winner of the AARP award is Jeff Deharo of Gold Miners.

Gold Miners spring season started of with a bang with a overtime victory.

Jeff stopped 22 out of 24 shots most of them on great scoring opportunities keeping the game close. His team was playing short-handed missing key defensemen and offensive players. Jeff made key saves all game long.

Jeff was the big differnce in the game for his team's win.
