Truth... Lies... Facts... and Over-30 Fiction

Home Stretch

Here we go… The home stretch is upon us.., the last (5) regular season games.

It’s the best part of any new year as we look forward to Daylight Savings (March 12th), 1st Day of Spring (March 20th), Easter (April 9th), all followed by the 2023 Spring Season Playoffs (April 15th) which is also Mike Luise and Pat Pirone favorite holiday; Tax Day!

This is it.., your last look at your opponents and matchups.., your last attempt at trying to derail history.., your last (5) games to impress the voters for the 2022-2023 Mylec Player of the Year (Shhhhh – not yet) more to follow on that news leak… we have other news to announce this week.

Punching Tickets

The Roadrunners are the 1st team to punch their ticket to the big dance.., well that used to be a big deal, but now everyone makes the playoffs, so even the ugly ones and the last ones picked for a dance have a chance to be the prom King & Queen (as we saw last season with Captain's Mutiny)

Instead of the odd 5th team missing the playoffs.., Now the prize is one of the two BYE's for the first week of the playoffs (or is it?).  Last season both top teams with the BYE showed up the following week and was upset with a loss.

The #1 seed is locked up for the Roadrunners.  Dominic DeFrancisco and his team are still perfect after the first two thirds of the season.  They have eluded every ACME trap and fake tunnel walls (so far).., but surely at least one team has it in them to try and prevent the inevitable perfect season.

Remember when it was the opposite for Coach's Corner and they didn’t win a game all season (except for the last one) when they beat Gang Green.., and who was the Gang Green Captain (do you remember?).., That’s right Dominic DeFrancisco.

Now the question is with 5-weeks left... "Who's going to be the #2 seed?"

Off the Radar

Look who finally showed up for the party… Sergio Costa and Pat Pirone who were both MIA for so long that we didn’t even notice they were gone.

Our guess is that they are both vying for the new “Under the Radar” award.., by not appearing on the radar to begin with.

Welcome back gentleman its good to see you back in action.

Impressive Performance

Last week’s matchup between Vulcan Grip and Roadrunners was actually a pretty good game.  John Kelleher must have told his troops to stay cool and not panic.., because for the most part they shut down the high-powered offense.  If fact, they took them into the 3rd period only down 1-goal.  It was a most impressive performance by Vulcan Grip

Steve Taddonio showed a little crack in the armor as he was giving up some juicy rebounds.., the problem was, there wasn’t a Vulcan Grip player anywhere near them to stuff them in.  You hear us (other teams not named Roadrunners).., get in tight on Steve for those juicy rebounds.

Speaking of in-tight on the goalie crease., who in their right mind had the 40:1 odds prop bet at the new WynnBET Sportbook that Mike Cresta would have a nice tip in goal on Steve?  Only someone using a crystal ball and burning incense could have seen that one coming.

The Decision

First LeBron James made a big deal about it back in 2010 when he aired “The Decision” to take his talents to Miami.

Now Mike Duggan has made his “Decision” and it looks like he’s not going for the 20/20 Club and instead will focus his efforts on taking a run at 30-goals to become only the third player in the leagues now 31-year history to do so.

He’s played 9-games and scored 20-goals.., and with 5-games left, you do the math.

Good luck Mike… and remember;

Road to 30

Like any good Campaign Manager.., Mike Duggan you need someone to help you layout the road to victory.., so we’re here to help and map out the “Road to 30”  for you.

Week 11 vs Devils Disciples and Scotty Rosato.., Scotty has been playing good as of late.., so this might be your standard 2-goal performance to get you to 22-goals.

Week 12 vs Captains Mutiny and Dale McIssac.., Sure they thought they had a plan to contain you and the Roadrunner offense (but) that sucked after the first period, and we don’t think their efforts will pay off again… based on previous beatings, we’re putting you down for a Hat Trick with 3-goals to get to 25-goals.

Week 13 vs Goombahs and Sean Roach.., Sean’s goaltending is like a single-handle kitchen faucet.., it runs hot or cold depending on which way it’s leaning.  We’re putting you down for another 2-goals and ending Week #13 with 27-goals.

Week 14 vs Justice League and Dave Giusti.., This is a must play week, cancel all tournaments, don’t RSVP for any Weddings, Stay sober Friday night.  Week #14 can be used as a make-up week in case any of the previous predictions are off.  Last time you lite Dave up for 5-goals (and he rightfully scored one himself on you guys).  This is an important week to maintain the goal schedule.  This could be the week you break 30-goals.

Week 15 vs Vulcan Grip and Jeff Deharo.., You should have 30 by now.., but if not stay away from Dave Costa’s side and focus on Mike Surette’s side.., he’ll let you by with a secret “Pelican” wave.

Good Luck Mike… and Remember “You can do it!”

Man Overboard

Last week’s snow and rain led to Hockeytown’s now infamous water features that are dripping from the ceiling and wreaking havoc all over the playing surface.

Last week Captain’s Mutiny Jim Barber went ass-over teakettle falling awkwardly inside the faceoff dot.  After doing his best Donny Maccini impression Jim hobbled to the bench (tried a shift) and then shut it down for the rest of the game with a lower body injury.

The good news, we heard that Jim suffered a sprain MCL and as of the moment nothing appears to be torn.., and he’s expected to miss the next 3-4 weeks to recover.

This is only Jim’s second major injury in all of his years playing up at Hocketown.., the last was almost 12-years to the day when Jim fractured his wrist in a Hockeytown league.  That injury caused him to miss the end of the Spring 2011 Season.., but he came back just in time for the playoffs and to record the GWG in the finals for Dead Men Walking (and look who was Captain back then)… Can history repeat itself?

Another fun fact about this photo… it was the last time our Dear Leader “Kim Jong-Abcunas” won a championship.., and he did it with Dave “The Anchor” Hill

Wooooo

With Jim out of the lineup.., it was up to Donny Maccini to “Wooooo” the fans in “Hecklers Row” with a beautiful breakaway goal on Scotty Rosato.

If you know Donny and have played with (and against him)..., we want you to take this moment to reflect and think back… When was the last time you saw Donny all alone on a breakaway?  Go ahead think about it.

For those of you that were lucky enough to witness the equivalent of a Leprechaun riding a Unicorn to a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, you witnessed a magical once in a lifetime event like Halley’s Comet which won’t appear again until 2061when “The Legend” Dan Broderick finally calls it a career.

Let’s see if Donny is lucky enough to turn his AARP Scratch ticket into a winner.

Da Vinci Code

Dave Costa is creeping up on 5-goals.., as once again Dave scored another impressive goal.  But the real hidden “Da Vinci Code” irony is that Dave “#55” scored his goal at “5:05”.., is that a sign from the “Portuguese Goal Gods”?

If there is indeed “Portuguese Goal Gods” then Dave better start praying real hard or sacrifice Mike Cresta to them.., because rumor has it Dave is going to miss 2 out of the last 5 games.  Which means 2-goals in 3-games… “Place you bets here!!!”

No Offense

Was there a secret Superhero’s meeting last week?  Was Gotham City being overrun by the Joker?  Did Lex Luthor send some Kryptonite in the mail to Rob Sheridan?

Last week the whole top line for the Justice League was either off fighting crime or home on the couch recovering from shoveling.., because they certainly weren’t available to help battle the Goombahs.

With the whole top line missing the Goombah’s should have thrown a beating on them to the point that Dave Giusti once again has to take matters into his own hands.., Instead Dave stayed in his crease and played a solid game.  There was just no offense to counterbalance the solid defense.
